The MEP Director is responsible for the overall operations of the department ensuring that the resources are fully utilized to deliver projects on time and budget. This will involve winning work, client care, recruitment, mentoring and leading teams to prepare engineering designs. The MEP Director creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the department and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. The MEP Director is a detail-oriented team player with the ability to manage multiple people, tasks, produce quality work, and consistently meet deadlines. The MEP Director is an important part of the company management and must be a subject matter expert in providing advice and guidance with respect to all mechanical, electrical and plumbing and fire protection aspects of projects. The MEP Director will work under the direction of the Executive Director and Managing Director to ensure that the process is managed timely and efficiently. Furthermore, the Director needs to be involved with bidding and business development to help with the organic growth of the department.
Job Description
- Provide input in preparing overall business strategy, goals and objective. Further enable in providing inputs on business strategy and forecast for the department.
- Business development to explore jobs, market study to find on prospective clients and new geographies if needed. Formulate and implement marketing strategy in consultation with Executive Director and Business Development Manager.
- Communicate and provide requisite MEP input to bid proposals to Directors of Contracts.
- Coordinate and communicate with Client, Project Managers, External Consultants, Specialist Consultants, and other relevant external agencies on MEP Projects in order to ensure quality delivery of Projects on time.
- Coordinate with all other head of departments like Director (Architecture & Design), Director (C&S), Director (Contracts), Director (Construction Administration), Director of Civil and Structure, Project Managers for project implementation, resources transfer, policy matters, statutory requirements and other considerations affecting the initial space planning.
- Review of final tender document (MEP part) technical and commercial support to engineers involved.
- Assist Director (CA) to develop procedural standards for design input in Post Contract supervision jobs.
- Create and implement a quality control program for company to be managed on the project level.
- Review and approve all the commercial and technical MEP proposals and variation.
- Review and manage MEP project budgets versus costs to complete.
- Support Executive Director in long term plans, new markets, new geographies and expansions.
- Lead PDP process in the department and be responsible for direct reports PDPs.
- Input into post PDP compensations review.
- Set up and manage outsourcing subconsultants as required.
- Drive innovation and digitalization in the department.
- Manage MEP expertise external exposure (Summits, Linked In etc.).
- Manage policies and processes improvement.
- Drive sustainability and innovation and promote green buildings design as per Bahrain government directives.
- Manage the MEP team organization.
- Manage and keep up to date MEP Marketing materials.
- Support Executive Director and Director (Contracts) with invoicing processes.
- Technical contents of all fee proposals on MEP projects to be prepared under consultation with Executive Director and Director (Contracts). Provide the basic estimate of man-hours and no. of drawings to Director (Contracts).
- Represent the Company-MEP or delegate responsibility of representing the Company- MEP at important meetings, gatherings, seminars under consultation with Director (Architecture & Design), Project Managers / Executive Director Managing Director
- Review and Rationalize the Company's standard details.
- Monitor and review concept design of MEP services. Promote sustainable and economical MEP design.
- Monitor Detail design (drawings and specifications) of MEP services to ensure for timely completion.
- Review cost plan/estimate prepared by Director (Contracts)/ External QS firm and keep the project on track. Arrange & review options and alternatives with relative merits and demerits in order to adopt a viable and cost-effective approach.
- Formulate criteria for appraisals. Apply same yardstick for grading, prepare and submit appraisals as and when required by the Management.
- Review and monitor leave schedules of all staff of MEP division.
- Scrutinize and recommend stationery requirement for staff members to secretary cum stationery in-charge.
- Resources allotment and assessment (planning) Manage resource plan and report to Executive Director.
- Analysis of operational team structure of mechanical and electrical discipline to ensure suitability with overall company business plans.
- Identify strengths of individual staff members. Allocate work compatible to his/her natural inclinations and acquired skills/expertise. Arrange for in-house training as appropriate as and when required. Arrange for external training with prior approval of Management as and when required.
- Review Project Programs and deliverables on various projects (external and in- house) that are running concurrently and forecast additional resource requirements and identify possibilities.
- Identify resource requirement and arrange to conduct interview and selection of MEP resources, as and when required, with prior approval of management.
- Provide Managerial direction to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineers.
- Ensure timely and adequate completion of all phases of the projects.
- Make sure all QAQC procedures are implemented and no submissions are released without QAQC in place
Your Profile
- Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Energy or Construction Engineering
- Chartered Engineer
- Project Management certification will be an added advantage
- 20+ years of experience in the field of MEP Construction engineering
- Of above at least 10 years of active working experience under similar business field and demonstrable working experience.
- Proven track record of managing MEP division.
- Must have GCC experience
- Must have consultancy experience
- Strong working knowledge of basic computer programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project
- In depth knowledge and ability to navigate MEP Coordination Tools and Programs including but not limited to BIM, Navisworks,
- Strong leadership qualities
